Food Apartheid Areas

North Charleston

Chicora/ Cherokee Median Household Income - $22,742

The Farm serves Chicora/Cherokee, one of eleven neighborhoods experiencing food apartheid in the city of North Charleston.

Disinvestment has created underserved spaces that lack:

  • traditional grocery stores

  • quality jobs

  • affordable housing

Additionally, the southern end of the city:

  • is overrun with hazardous industrial zones

  • suffers from the highest eviction rate in the US.

We hire from the community and pay our employees livable wages.

Rapid Response Aid for Utilities

Since March 20th, the Farm store emptied its shelves, distributed 140 grocery packages, and paid $2,395.64 in utilities and rent for Chicora/Cherokee residents. In this season of uncertainty and underemployment, your $6,000 in donations expand that support. Thanks for all the Giving Tuesday Now donations on May 5! Shout out to our solidarity partners at Two Rivers Church for helping us  meet our fundraising goal.

Now more than ever we are called to make a difference!
